WHAT WE DO

Grants and Financing

Tourism  Fund supports the growth and promotion of the tourism sector in Kenya. Its objectives include financing the development and marketing of tourism products and services, and covering costs for the Tourism Protection Service. It also funds tourism research, the management of national tourism information systems, and the establishment of a Tourism Sector Safety, Communication and Crisis Management Centre by the Ministry. Tourism Fund also finances training and capacity development in tourism hospitality.

Grants

Kenya Tourism Board

Under Section 68 of the Tourism Act, Tourism Fund is critical in promoting Kenya as a prime tourist destination. It achieves this by providing financial support through grants to the Kenya Tourism Board.
The Kenya Tourism Board, which is tasked with the national marketing and branding of Kenya's diverse tourism offerings, uses these funds to implement various marketing strategies and campaigns both locally and internationally.

Tourism Protection Service

Tourism Fund allocates financial resources to support the activities of the Protection Service, specifically the Tourism Police Unit. This specialized unit is responsible for ensuring safety within tourist areas, thereby enhancing the security framework that is crucial for the thriving tourism industry. By providing funding to the Tourism Police Unit, the Fund helps cover operational costs such as training, equipping, and maintaining the police personnel dedicated to tourist safety

Kenya Utalii College

Tourism Fund contributes towards Kenya Utalii College, a premier institution in hospitality and tourism education in Africa. This funding enables the college to maintain its high education and training standards, ensuring that it continues producing skilled professionals ready to contribute to the tourism sector. The Fund helps address the industry's demand for well-trained personnel, which is vital for enhancing service delivery and improving the overall tourist experience in Kenya.

Ronald Ngala Utalii College

Tourism Fund allocates significant resources to finance training and capacity development activities in colleges that offer courses in tourism and hospitality.  This investment enriches the educational experience for students but also boosts their employment prospects in the competitive tourism sector. Consequently, these efforts contribute to a well-prepared workforce that can elevate service standards within the industry and drive sustained growth and development in tourism and hospitality across the region.

Tourism Research Institute

Through this grant, the fund is able to gives its contribution towards TRI, which is then empowered to conduct and coordinate comprehensive tourism research and analysis, instrumental in bridging the research and knowledge gaps within the tourism industry,. TRI is a key reference center for the generation of valuable data and research insights. This wealth of information is vital for informed decision-making processes by both government bodies and private sector stakeholders.

Development of tourism products and services;

This entails investing in initiatives aimed at enhancing Kenya's appeal as a top tourist destination. The financing supports the creation, improvement, and diversification of tourism offerings, which may include developing new attractions, enhancing existing natural and cultural heritage sites, and innovating unique travel experiences that cater to varying tourist interests and trends.
